The European Union and European governments should move beyond an ‘integration’ approach when making policies to do with refugee access to higher education. This paper recommends inclusionary and pro-active policies to getting people of refugee backgrounds into higher education and based on ideas of solidarity and community beyond national or European borders This involves a productive rethinking of the university’s knowledge practices, pedagogies and role in the public sphere.
