Open Education Limited (OpEn)

Budapest, Hungary

Joined REis consortium in 2019

OpEn runs part-time education programs for asylum-seekers and people with refugee status. These programs are designed to impart academic skills, advocacy training and career skills to a population that experiences severe political attacks by the Hungarian government. Refugees and asylum seekers in Hungary receive no assistance towards their social, political or economic inclusion and are subject to punitive actions and the withdrawal of welfare.

In this context, OpEn continues education programs run at REIs partner Central European University until the summer of 2018.  In doing so, OpEn provides a safe and inclusive space for asylum seekers and people with refugee status in an otherwise hostile environment.
