OLIve at UEL is offering a 16-week course for refugees and asylum seekers in the UK. The aim of the course is to introduce refugees and asylum seekers to Higher Education. It offers an opportunity for students to find out what skills and knowledge are needed in order to apply for and succeed in Higher Education in the UK and provides information about pathways and opportunities. The course provides modules and workshops in English language and academic writing, research skills, academic tutoring and introduction to academic discussions.

A certificate of attendance is available for all who attend the offered workshops. Please note that this is not an accredited programme and does not give students an automatic access to other UEL courses.

In addition to the programmes and supporting students into full time Higher Education courses and other appropriate education, OLIve at UEL continues to build networks with other UK institutions and organisations to share best practice and advocate for rights of refugee students. Ongoing UK contribution into European-wide knowledge sharing about refugee access to higher education is especially important at the time of Brexit, and UEL is well placed, as the leader of London Refugee Access to Higher Education to contribute into the consortium’s efforts to build best practice and advocate for further inclusion of refugees into third level education.
