This is the second OLIve course I have had the pleasure to support by offering poetry workshops. Poetry has been my passion since my early years, and in my country Colombia I had the opportunity to publish four of my books. (…) Being a student at UEL has opened many doors to me and also put me in contact with OLIve project. I felt in love with the idea of offering something similar to what I do in the libraries, to a group of people who are on a similar journey to mine a few year ago.
Read MoreI spent 3 months working for the OLIve (Open Learning Initiative) program with the University of East London (UEL) completing an internship as part of my Master’s in Public and Global Health at the University of Tampere in Finland. What I experienced from this internship will always stay with me. I have never met such an inspiring and strong group of people. From the courage and resilience among the students, to the passion and dedication from the UEL staff running and contributing to the program.

From the first day, I have been able to put to practical use my research skills in the collation of English languages resources for use by the participants. In addition, it was also interesting and inspiring to see how participants of the project were enthusiastic about learning new skills to enhance their future academic prospects.
Read MoreThe first thing that surprised us volunteers was the sheer commitment all participants at the OLIve course showed towards the programme. When we arrived at University Square in the mornings, volunteers were usually in the room already and ready to take on the day. Although most participants came from afar (…), no one ever complained about feeling tired or unmotivated to work.
